Why We Care
In recent history, Albany’s district schools were failing our Grandchildren. Plagued by dangerous environments, large classes and poor facilities, the results were failing test scores, increasing dropout rates and growing uneasiness questioning if our grandchildren were capable of achieving success. Many claimed that these children could not learn. The so called “achievement gap” was used as an excuse for the district’s school failures. Charter schools proved them wrong.
With the opening of the new and successful [charter schools] collectively offering safe environments, uniforms, small schools, longer school days and extended school years - we now have opportunities where our grandchildren can learn, succeed and prosper and get the best education possible. In fact, Albany’s charter school students are outperforming not only students in Albany’s district schools but students in the affluent suburban school districts and even across New York State on some tests.
